about
My biggest frustration as someone that works with prisoners, is how little difference I can actually make to each individual or to the prison structure as a whole. At times I feel completely beaten down and powerless as each participant to my sessions gets released and then returns to prison or when I hear of the injustices my participants are suffering from, but I have no way of changing it.
This song is about the only thing I can do; Love the people I work with. It seems the biggest difference I can make is just to show that whoever someone is, or whatever they might have done, they deserve basic human rights and most importantly, love. I am often left questioning if love can actually change anything material, or if that even matters. But in truth, love is all any of us really have to offer anyone.
It ain’t true that there’s nothing in my control
It ain’t true that I can’t change a thing
It ain’t true I’m the only one to blame
And it ain’t true that it’s all up to me
It ain’t true that we live this life alone
And it ain’t true we’re defined by class
It ain’t true that we’re only individual
And we all know that we’re stronger together
Hey, oh, If love don’t mean a thing
Hey, oh, then life don’t mean a thing
Hey, oh, If love can’t change it all
Hey, oh, then I can’t change at all
It ain’t true that there’s nothing that I can do
To break the walls that are closing in
It ain’t true I’m defined by what you say
Cos we know love can change it all
Hey, oh, If love don’t mean a thing
Hey, oh, then life don’t mean a thing
Hey, oh, If love can’t change it all
Hey, oh, then I can’t change at all
50% of sales go to prison-music charity, Changing Tunes. Break III formed whilst inside prison in the South West of the UK. We write anti-capitalist alternative rock music based on the experiences and stories told by prisoners.
This band formed the same way we did, in prison. Their hard-hitting socio-political rap over heavy grooves, hip hop beats and hooks will blow you away! Break III
Continuing the rock tradition of talking about awkward, intimate minutiae and nerdy obsessions via mammoth guitar lines. Bandcamp Album of the Day Sep 12, 2017
