about
The subject matter of Toys is fairly straight forward, and the lyrics place the subject matter right in front of you. It is a commentary on the materialist nature of our society and how an obsession with success, ambition and status, disguise the failings of our current political system. The obsession with material possessions (or toys) allow current power structures to hold us down and ignore those that seek actual change.
You buy toys to keep you happy, Your ambition has kept you subdued
But when it all comes falling down, Did you really think that would do?
You get a vote to keep you placid, And they argue to keep you confused
But when the parties turn around, Nothing ever changes
We get toys that keep us happy, Our ambition has kept us subdued
But now it’s all come falling down, Did we really think that would do?
We get a vote to keep us placid, And they've argued and kept us confused
But when the parties turn around, Nothing ever changes
The more you hold onto, the more it holds you down
The more you look above, they turn away
The more you hold onto, they hold you down, they hold you down
The more you hold onto, the more it holds you down
The more you look above, they turn away
The more you hold onto, they hold you down, they hold you down
The more we hold onto, it holds us down
The more we look above, they turn away
The more we hold onto, they hold us down, they hold us down
The more we hold onto, it holds us down
The more we look above, they turn away
The more we hold onto, they hold us down, they hold us down
50% of sales go to prison-music charity, Changing Tunes. Break III formed whilst inside prison in the South West of the UK. We write anti-capitalist alternative rock music based on the experiences and stories told by prisoners.
This band formed the same way we did, in prison. Their hard-hitting socio-political rap over heavy grooves, hip hop beats and hooks will blow you away! Break III
Continuing the rock tradition of talking about awkward, intimate minutiae and nerdy obsessions via mammoth guitar lines. Bandcamp Album of the Day Sep 12, 2017
