This song started with the, “always gotta watch your back” based on a story another prisoner once told me. He was in his 60s and at one point went to stab another prisoner in order to not get attacked first. He was 6 months away from release and would have died in prison if he had gone through with. Luckily the person he was going to attack was removed from the prison that afternoon and it all came to nothing.

I then turned the subject on its head and wondered how those who refer to prisons as “holiday parks” or thing that prison is “too easy” if they knew these stories. Or even more so, if they had to live this reality. The story of the song shifts at this point to a question of, “how would the ruling class feel if they had to always watch their backs, knowing that we were coming for them”. This isn’t happening, but I can’t help but wonder how different the world would look if those with power and money felt just a little less invincible.
